VINEYARD AND ELABORATION
DESCRIPTION: Within the municipality of Pesquera de Duero, facing south at an altitude of more than 800 meters.
SURFACE: 200 hectares total.
SOIL: Sandy-loam soil.
CLIMATE: In the 2017 vintage we found some key factors that conditioned the course of the entire vegetative cycle. In general, it was a vintage of cold winter and a period of pronounced drought during the hot months. The average annual rainfall is 400mm per year and only 250mm occurred.
Within these general features we find a specific event that conditioned the normal course of plant development. The sprouting took place in mid-April and on the night of April 27-28 there was a general frost in the Ribera del Duero at -6oC. This produced a loss of almost all of the buds buds which resulted in a second bud budding of the strains in which not all buds were productive. Coupled with a few months of heat and drought during the vegetation development period, it led us to a shorter vegetative cycle than usual and with clusters that come from a second generation.
2017 is a vintage of a good sanitary state and with grapes that have reached full maturation, but it should be noted that fewer bunches were obtained per vine, smaller berries and less weight per bunch.
HARVEST: The harvest was healthy and of exceptional quality.
AGING: 18 months in American oak barrels 6 resting in the bottle before being released to the market.
