A very dark, almost opaque cherry-coloured wine with hardly any signs of evolution. On the nose it is intense, complex, with notes of ripe black fruit, balsamic and with a slightly mineral background. On the palate it is very well structured, with a fresh sensation and a remarkable concentration of polished tannins that give, on the palate, a warm and unctuous sensation, with a long finish where certain toasted notes from the ageing in French oak barrels can be perceived. A wine whose tannic structure and notable acidity predict more than a good future ageing in the bottle, very much in line with the riscales of the beginning of the 20th century.
CLIMATOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 2012 HARVEST
The 2012 campaign began with a hot and dry autumn, a situation that continued throughout the winter. At the start of bud break, the level of rainfall recorded was the lowest in the last 22 years. This lack of rainfall meant that bud break began around 14 April. Flowering began on 1 June, a month with exceptionally high temperatures and hardly any rainfall. This led to a very rapid development of the vineyard.
The beginning of veraison took place on July 25. The summer was extremely dry, which resulted in small bunches and berries, especially in the vines located further south.
The harvest began on September 17th in a very selective manner, due to the great difference in ripening between the plots. In the last part, the rains began, a factor that, together with a significant drop in temperatures, greatly helped the correct ripening of the grapes and especially the seeds and skins. The vegetative cycle was 210 days.
