VINEYARD AND WINE PRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION: Within the municipal area of Pesquera de Duero, facing south at an altitude of more than 800 metres.
SURFACE AREA: 200 hectares total.
SOIL: Sandy loam soil.
CLIMATE: In the 2017 vintage we found some key factors that conditioned the course of the entire vegetative cycle. In general terms it was a cold winter and a period of pronounced drought during the hot months. The average annual rainfall is 400mm per year and only 250mm occurred.
Within these general features, we find a specific event that conditioned the normal course of plant development. Budding took place in mid-April and on the night of 27-28 April there was a widespread frost in the Ribera del Duero of -6oC. This caused a loss of almost all the sprouted buds, which resulted in a second sprouting of the vines in which not all the buds were productive. Combined with a few months of heat and drought during the period of vegetation development, this led to a shorter than usual vegetative cycle and with bunches that come from a second generation.
2017 is a vintage in good health and with grapes that have reached full ripeness, but it should be noted that fewer bunches per vine, smaller berries and less weight per bunch were obtained.
HARVEST: The harvest was healthy and of exceptional quality.
AGEING: 18 months in American oak barrels, 6 months resting in the bottle before being released to the market.
