Varieties
85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, the result of a selection of vines between 35 and 40 years old from the “El Rincón” estate.
Vineyard
“Pago El Rincón” - 5.34 hectare plot - located in the southern area of our “Viña Lanciano” estate (El Cortijo – Rioja Alta) next to the “El Rincón” mountain. Altitude of 491 metres with a slight slope. North - South orientation with a slight Northwest - Southwest inclination. Traditional Riojan 3-branch bush with 5 shoots of 2 buds. Yield of 3,500 kg / ha.
Elaboration
Manual harvesting in small baskets and subsequent selection by bunch and grain on tables, so that only those grains that are in perfect condition move on to the next phase of production.
Malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels ended in the spring of the following year. During the period between alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the lees were stirred weekly to achieve greater volume in the mouth, resulting in a silkier and more pleasant wine.
Breeding
For 8 months in French oak barrels from the Jupille and Troncaise forests followed by 5 months in new Caucasian oak. Unclarified and unfiltered wine, these processes having occurred naturally over time by natural sedimentation and decanting in the barrel.
Tasting Notes
Ripe cherry colour, very covered and bright. Very intense aromas where ripe black fruit predominates (plum, blackberry, blackcurrant) almost candied. Memories of cocoa and toffee, black tobacco and spices, as well as mineral touches, a characteristic that is common to all the wines that come from the “Viña Lanciano” estate. The entrance in the mouth is warm and velvety. It is round, mature, with a great tannic load while being elegant. Long and harmonious aftertaste. It is a wine with character, with great personality, a true reflection of the terroir from which it comes.
